Our Lady of Victory I Hear the Warrior's Cry

Could it be we are telling ourselves the wrong story?

Our Lady of Victory I Hear the Warrior’s Cry

Dare I say you spoke to me?
Dare I say that I heard you call my name?

Mother of us all what is it that you'd like to say?

That we've let our world go astray
And though it’s difficult
It isn't too late to find another way

Our Lady of Victory
Please tell me the true meaning of your name
For I know there are greater victories than the ones that are won
fought with the flesh and the blood of our young

Speak to me of those hard truths
the ones that cut through the lies we've built our lives upon

What is it that you'd like to say?

That divinity has no sides
that these are lines we humans create
that divide us because we ourselves are divided
because we refuse to acknowledge that we too have evil inside us

What is it that you'd like to say?

That perpetuating this double standard of the flag and the cross
is not victorious at all
In fact it keeps us from entering the gates of Heaven here on Earth

We ask for your forgiveness and seek your mercy

For the cross was never intended to be carried
it was a choice that we humans made
Nor were we meant to wrap ourselves up in our flags
and to die in your name

We have mistakenly raced to the wrong arms
and yet you are still here calling our names

Sweet Mother of us All
You show us that miracles are born from forgiveness
and in spite of our individual and collective mistakes
You extend out your arms
and welcome us home to your divine embrace

We weep sorrowful tears
Mourning the loss of innocent lives
Your light illuminates the deep pain we've been carrying inside
The pain that comes from the realization that as children of God
we were never meant to leave the playground for the battleground
For when we ground ourselves in your unwavering love
We stop dropping bombs and begin to drop our guard

We are on the forefront of a Revolution
The Divine Feminine Uprising
Where the revolution evolves from fist to five
For it is only when we come to completely understand
that we are only liberated
when we shed our armor
and share our vulnerable hearts

And when we do
We begin to play the game of Truth And Dare
We speak our Truth
And when we do
We see the rapture comes
in reclaiming our true nature
the one that has been there all along

And when we do
We dare to laugh until we cry
and cry until we laugh
We dare to see the humor of being human
We dare to dance freely
We dare to love madly
We dare to rejoice loudly
We dare to play with wild abandon
and let our songs sing your praise

 Dear Lady of Victory
Show us that the chapel resides inside
So we may return to the Garden of Eden
And plant the seeds of our dreams
in your fertile crescent
Nourishing them
So that they come to bare fruit
on the Tree of Life

And guide us Divine Mother of us All
 to the Great Victory
Let us never forget
that our power lies in our imagination
Help us to remember that we have the Power
to destroy and to create

Let us destroy the story that holds us captive to reliving our history
And rewrite a new creation story
Let his story become her story
By choosing
Life over death and Love over hate
Cooperation over competition
Understanding & Forgiveness over Judgement and Blame

Let us feast at your table
and share generously in your abundant bounty
Where we are all free to be you and me
For we are all One!

Until Victory, Always

Reclaiming Herstory

I am armed with a flute as opposed to an arrow
that can pierce the heart of the closed
I invite you to follow its melodious call

I am armed with a camera from Mount Olympus
My eyes have become the lens upon which life's fleeting moments
become imprinted on the film of my soul

I am armed with a pen to reclaim Herstory
The story of a Divine Love affair
I am unafraid to claim it all
the dark the light
the sorrow and the joy
the Saint and the Prostitute
where the Sacred meets the Profane

I am armed with feet
Paws like a tiger
Calm and precise
They know how to move one step at a time
Able to pounce when the moment is right

These feet pound the pavement with grace
They soak up energy from the core of the world
And when they hear the call of the drums they explode into dance

My heart beats fast
Sweat drips
Hair whips back and forth
I invite you into my dance
to take part in life in ways you could have never foreseen.

I am connected to being whether I dance alone or in partnership
For I know how sweet the rhythm of life is
And I wish to share that with the world

I am armed with my voice
Sweet whispering breath
Because Truth don't need a megaphone
Simply an open mic
This voice speaks words of peace
And sings songs of praise
Because living is meant to be lived until our dying day

And on this day when Earth no longer keeps us anchored to the ground
We are welcomed home with open arms
 Full of God's amazing Grace.

A Valentines Day Contemplation

The other day I posted a posted a quote I found on Ethan Nichtern's instagram account which was a repost from Fuck Jerry. It said, "Fuck the real world, in elementary school the whole classroom was your Valentine. We were in this shit together."
Though this quote is said like a sailor, it has some deeply profound truth to it and I feel so damn blessed to have job where I am surrounded by children who teach me how to be a better adult.
I must admit at first, I was a bit judgmental of my co-teachers' enthusiasm for the holiday. I was hating on all that crafty shit, and the hearts and glitter...eww...What a way to buy into the hallmark holiday I thought.
But as I started to see the excitement on my students' faces as they constructed and decorated their Valentines Day mail boxes, that hardened part of my heart started to loosen a bit...and I reminded myself of my commitment to turn every judgment of mine into a curiosity.
And so I did....I got curious about their enthusiasm and I joined them..and guess what? I had fun! I enjoyed the glittery hearts and stickers...I thoroughly enjoyed copying my students creative ideas and working along side of them to turn my own "mistakes" into opportunities. A teacher has to be willing to learn the lessons they are trying to teach others....
After school I printed a bunch of hearts on some card stock paper and went out and purchased about 60 Valentines Day pencils. I then returned home and sat by the fire ready to begin my factory style Valentines assembly line. I cut each heart out one by one, I then punched a heart shaped hole into it, attached a pencil with a red ribbon, and proceed to write each kid a note wishing them love and laughter in all of their days….My factory line become a meditation on love...
Every time that annoying voice popped up saying that I was wasting my time or that my handwriting was ugly, or that I could have cut the hearts out better...I told those thoughts to take a back fucking seat....
I instead chose to think about the gift I have as a teacher and as a human being to have my heart touch and be touched by another human life.
I began to imagine what it would be like to cut a paper heart out for each of the beautiful and unique souls who have come into my life in one way or another....Oh so many!….some know the impact they’ve had on my life…and many more who don’t….
I imagined a room wall papered with paper hearts….Hearts of family members, friends, old boyfriends, students, co-workers, people I’ve danced with, people I’ve met in my travels, people I have sung with, cried with, celebrated with, people who have shared a smile with me in a subway train and people whose names I don’t remember but whose essence flavors my existence…..Wow….This is what Valentines Day is all about!
And the following day surrounded by the beautiful chaos of students delivering Valentines to one another …I witnessed what love is really about…its about our connection to one another and to everyone and every living thing ……and my fifth graders know that and they are helping me to remember that….
Thank You!
